Plastic Bag Free Lyttelton

Plastic bag pollution may not be the worst environmental problem that we face, but it is symbolic of our tendancy to live in a throw-away society. Tackling it is one of the first steps towards more responsible resource usage and waste minimisation.

Rod Lawrence as Development Manager is working with Project Lyttelton to develop opportunities in Lyttelton and the Harbour communities.

Responsible Transport Solutions for Lyttelton

Project Lyttelton is exploring what sustainable transport for our community might look like. We encourage people to walk, use buses and reduce car use by sharing rides. Co-operatively owned car sharing is also a possibility. Watch the You Tube videos at World Carshare Video Library. of Vancouver’s Co-operative Auto Network (CAN) with that project’s initiator. Community Computers

Project Lyttelton provides computers free of charge to local community groups and in special circumstances to families. Chris Twemlow refurbishes computers that have been donated by CCC and local businesses. Contact PL for further information.

Grow Local - Opawa Garden

$20 / week, 20 hours volunteering per season and receive over 20 weeks of produce beginning October 2008

Grow Local Opawa Garden has been established for a year and is sited on the original CPIT organic horticultural trainging site in Opawa, Christchurch. PL took over the gardens last July and a team of volunteers and paid gardeners have worked hard over the year to turn it into a productive garden again.We harvested a wonderful variety of vegetables and fruit over the last months and are hoping to increase our output in the following seasons.
