Plastic Bag Free Lyttelton

shopping bag

Plastic bag pollution may not be the worst environmental problem that we face, but it is symbolic of our tendancy to live in a throw-away society. Tackling it is one of the first steps towards more responsible resource usage and waste minimisation.

Developing Opportunities

Rod Lawrence as Development Manager is working with Project Lyttelton to develop opportunities in Lyttelton and the Harbour communities.

"I see a huge potential for developing a sustainable Lyttelton, working together we can make a real positive difference to our environment, both living and visiting Lyttelton and the harbour communities."

Responsible Transport Solutions for Lyttelton

Project Lyttelton is exploring what sustainable transport for our community might look like. We encourage people to walk, use buses and reduce car use by sharing rides. Co-operatively owned car sharing is also a possibility. Watch the You Tube videos at World Carshare Video Library. of Vancouver’s Co-operative Auto Network (CAN) with that project’s initiator. If you are interested in exploring this concept for our Lyttelton community contact us

Currently a CCC community van coordinated by Project Lyttelton is used regularly on Tuesdays.

3 Bin Survey

Are you happy with the new 3 bin waste scheme that CCC is bringing in?

A concerned group of individuals within Project Lyttelton would like to find out what this community’s response is to the new 3 bin system coming in to effect 2009. Then from the results of the survey plan the appropriate next step.
If you are not completely happy you are invited to download the following questionnaire and send it to

Grow Local Opawa Garden has been established for a year and is sited on the original CPIT organic horticultural trainging site in Opawa, Christchurch. PL took over the gardens last July and a team of volunteers and paid gardeners have worked hard over the year to turn it into a productive garden again. We harvested a wonderful variety of vegetables and fruit over the last months and are hoping to increase our output in the following seasons.
